In 2007 Farm Frites undertook trial work to assess whether it was necessary to de-stone potato ridges prior to planting. The trial concluded that if the stones are not removed they do not cause any significant yield loss or potato/equipment damage at harvesting. This therefore removes one major tractor operation and ultimately reduces fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions.
Trial work undertaken by Farm Frites resulted in changes in operational practices, reducing costs and decreasing fossil fuel use.
